The Wildwood campus of St. Louis Community College was named 2014 Business of the Year by the West St. Louis County Chamber of Commerce at its recent installation and awards gala held Jan. 23 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Ballwin.

The chamber is a not-for-profit membership organization of businesses and professional people working together to promote the growth and expansion of commerce in the west St. Louis County area. The chamber represents nearly 450 businesses and the community in eight cities, including Ballwin, Clarkson Valley, Ellisville, Manchester, Twin Oaks, Valley Park, Wildwood, Winchester and unincorporated St. Louis County.

The award is given by a vote of the entire membership to an active member who participates in chamber events, displays consistent community involvement and supports the chamber and its endeavors. STLCC-Wildwood has been an active member of the chamber since its opening in 2007, and has been a nominee in the category twice before this year.

“We are very honored to receive this award,” said Patrick Vaughn, vice president for academic affairs, upon accepting the award. “STLCC’s Wildwood campus is here to raise up the communities it serves through education, and we are proud to be recognized by the wonderful communities that we serve.”

The chamber also named Debbie Ward of STLCC-Wildwood as its 2014 Business Person of the Year. The award is given to a member who contributes resources and actively participates in a variety of meetings and events. Ward serves as coordinator of public information and marketing for the campus and is a member of the chamber’s Board of Directors. In addition to attending a variety of meetings and events, she has contributed her marketing and media skills to aid the chamber and its members. She has also assisted with several events.
