Noted social and political anthropologist Faye Harrison presents “A Global Critical Race Feminist Perspective on Rights and Justice: Transnational Implications of the Crisis in Ferguson” at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, in the Meramec Theatre, located on the west side of the campus at 11333 Big Bend Road in Kirkwood.

Harrison will examine three cases of African-descended women in the United States, Brazil, and Cuba who have taken their respective forms of gendered antiracist activism from protest and problem solving within their immediate communities to wider national and transnational arenas for setting the agenda for social and economic justice.

The lecture highlights how these social critics and activists confront social injustices, such as life-threatening policing and other kinds of repressive social control, as problems undermining quality of life and human rights for communities vulnerable to being stigmatized via criminalization.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. For more information, call 314-984-7989.
