Craig Larson, Ed.D., chair of the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees, will receive the Trustee Leadership Award from the Missouri Community College Association at the MCCA Convention Nov. 5-7 in Branson, Mo.

The award is presented to a community college trustees whose work and leadership has substantially advanced the mission of community colleges. Only one award is presented statewide.

Larson has been active in MCCA since his election to the STLCC Board of Trustees in 2010. He was instrumental in developing a Trustee Council in 2012. He quickly earned a spot on the MCCA board and assisted in the planning of the spring conference. He immediately worked to make the completion agenda a state-wide issue. Larson led a discussion among Missouri trustees concerning efforts within each represented college to improve student success. The discussion included input from 70 community college trustees, presidents, chancellors and top-level administrators regarding how colleges are working to improve completion rates through orientation, advising new-to-college students, developmental education and measuring student success. He distributed the results of a statewide survey representing 12 community colleges and developed a summary following the conference.

Larson has served on MCCA Board of Directors since 2011. This year he is the chair-elect, and will become chair in January 2015.

Larson is active in the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), where he served as an associate member of the Public Policy Committee for two years and currently serves on the Governance and By-laws Committee.

Larson is an educational consultant and an adjunct professor in Maryville University’s doctoral program.  He is the retired superintendent of the Rockwood School District.

The Missouri Community College Association is a statewide organization through which Missouri’s community colleges work together to advance common agendas. MCCA provides advocacy, education, information and networking opportunities in service of the state’s 5,700 community college faculty, staff, administrators and trustees.
