STLCC Students Receive Follett Textbook Scholarships

September 26, 2014

Five St. Louis Community College students have received $1,250 in textbook scholarships from Follett Higher Education Group as part of the All-USA Community College Academic Team program.

Scholarships were presented to Lydia Grace, Kendra Hefner, Jade Maragliano, Collin Overby and Teresa Strake. Each student has achieved high academic honors and is actively involved with at least two student organizations or clubs at the Wildwood campus.

This program is sponsored by Follett, presented by USA TODAY, with additional support provided by Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, and the American Association of Community Colleges.

These awards are presented in recognition of the opportunities for excellence at STLCC as a result of the selection of Jenna Freund as a member of the 2014 All-USA Community College Academic Team. Freund graduated from STLCC in May 2014 and now is pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on a full-tuition scholarship.

From more than 1,700 nominations from community college presidents, 20 students were selected for the All-USA Community College Academic Team, with each receiving a $2,500 scholarship and medallion. These students were featured in the USA TODAY newspaper and presented at Phi Theta Kappa’s Presidents Breakfast held during the American Association of Community College’s Annual Convention. In addition, each of their colleges received $1,250 in textbook scholarships to be awarded locally.
