Meramec Montage Named ACP Pacemaker Finalist

September 23, 2014

The Montage, St. Louis Community College-Meramec's student newspaper, was selected by the Associated Collegiate Press as one of eight finalists in the 2014 two-year school division category of the Newspaper Pacemaker competition. Since 1927, the Pacemaker has been the highest honor available to ACP members and collegiate journalists.

Finalists were selected by a panel of professional journalists, based on excellence in coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, layout/design and photography, art and graphics.

The Montage will be recognized as a finalist, and winners will be announced at the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention Oct. 29-Nov. 2 in Philadelphia, Pa. Six staff members and the faculty adviser will attend the conference.

The Montage annually competes nationally against other two-year school newspapers, including student newspapers from other STLCC campuses. The Montage was inducted into the ACP Pacemaker Hall of Fame in 1988, awarded a national Pacemaker in 1991, 1996, 2009, and named as national finalists in 2003 and 2007.

In addition to national recognition, the Montage has consistently received individual awards from the Missouri College Media Association, including Best Overall Newspaper in the two-year school division.
