Norris to Receive Honorary Award from National FFA Organization

Richard Norris, Ph.D., director of the Center for Plant and Life Sciences at St. Louis Community College, was selected to receive an honorary degree from the National FFA Organization.

Norris will receive the Honorary American FFA Degree at the 87th National Convention & Expo in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 31. All recipients will receive a certificate as well as a medal, and their names will be permanently recorded. 

This award is given to individuals who have provided exceptional service to agriculture, agricultural education, or the National FFA Organization.

The National FFA Organization makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Norris has been an employee of the college since June 2000. He has more than 30 years of experience in education. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Missouri Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (MVATA) 30 Years of Service Award in 2011, the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Teaching Excellence Award in 2004, MVATA Distinguished Service Award in 2003, and was named the National and Missouri Agriscience Teacher of the Year in 1997.

Norris received his bachelor’s in agriculture and master’s in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His doctorate in agricultural education is from Texas A&M University.
