Beginning this fall, St. Louis Community College students will have access to Microsoft’s OneDrive and Office 365 Pro Plus at no cost.

Students with active my.stlcc.edu email accounts automatically will find access to these services on the account menu bar.

“More and more of our students are using laptops, tablets and smartphones, and we’re pleased to make OneDrive for Business and Office 365 Pro Plus services available to them 24-7,” said Khouloud Hawasli, STLCC’s manager of electronic communications and system integration. “We are pleased to provide the technology students need to be successful right at their fingertips.”

Students currently enrolled in credit classes will get one terabyte (1 TB) of cloud storage plus the full version of Office 365 Pro Plus. This enhanced version can be installed onto up to five personal devices, including PCs and Macs, tablets and smartphones. Office mobile applications also are accessible for iPhone and Android phones. These applications automatically are included with all Windows phones. Current students must connect their devices to the Internet once every 30 days in order for the software to verify their enrollment.

OneDrive provides many benefits, including:

  • Easy and convenient access to your files and folders from anywhere.
  • Access from multiple device types, including PCs, Macs, Windows phones, Windows Surface tablets, iPhones and iPad
  • Automatic backup and protection for important document.
  • Ability to share photos and files through hypertext linking.
  • Synchronize file storage across multiple devices and the cloud storage.
  • Ability to share and collaborate on files and documents at the same time.
  • Ability to view and edit Office documents online or within locally installed Office applications.

Office 365 Pro Plus is a bundle of applications that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, plus other online tools and software programs.

Office 365 Pro Plus essentially is a subscription version of Microsoft Office. With the downloaded version, students can use this subscription even without an internet connection. Office 365 Pro Plus provides a number of advantages; for instance, the ability to create and send assignments to your professor in a compatible format.

With Office Pro Plus, students gain access to both the familiar Microsoft Office desktop suite as well as the online versions of next-generation Microsoft communications and collaboration services, including:

  • Microsoft Exchange Online for email, shared calendars and shared address books.
  • Microsoft Lync® Online for instant messaging and online meetings (coming soon).
  • Microsoft Office Web Apps for online access to Microsoft Office files.
  • Microsoft SharePoint® Online for collaboration and resource sharing (coming soon).
