On Thursday, May 22, the West St. Louis County Chamber of Commerce sponsored a ribbon cutting to celebrate St. Louis Community College’s new sign on the corner of Route 109 and New College Avenue.

“This really is a big deal,” Acting President Dr. Patrick Vaughn said. “We want to continue our mission of expanding minds and changing lives, and this will help more people in the community know that they can pursue their academic and life goals right here in Wildwood.”

Dr. Vaughn thanked the City of Wildwood’s staff, the City Council, and the Planning and Zoning committee for being receptive to the proposal and collaborating on the project.

The sign was designed by Mark Oakley, instructor of illustration and graphic arts at the Wildwood campus and a freelance illustrator. Oakley’s inspiration came from the unique architecture of the campus’ roof, which is mirrored in the sign’s design. Dale Sign Service in Manchester brought the design to life.
