STLCC-Forest Park Hosts St. Louis Teen Talent Semifinal Round

February 18, 2014

The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation’s Fourth Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition moves on to its semifinal round Saturday, March 1, when 37 high school acts take the stage at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park.

The competition begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. in the Mildred E. Bastian Center for the Performing Arts at STLCC-Forest Park, 5600 Oakland Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

This competition will determine the finalists who will then compete at The Fabulous Fox on Friday, April 4.

This year, 153 students from more than 80 high schools and performing arts organizations, plus homeschoolers, registered to compete in the preliminary round. Semifinalist acts include singers; a variety of solo musicians; an alternative rock band; rappers; a ventriloquist; a hula-hooper; and dancers including tap, ballet and contemporary. Competitors have the opportunity to win scholarships and prizes.

STLCC has been a partner and sponsor since 2011, and last year began hosting both preliminary and semifinal rounds.

“It was exciting to see the quality and variety of this year’s talent,” said Mary Strauss, president of Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation Board of Directors. “We’re looking forward to seeing which of the 37 semifinal acts make it to the finals on the Fox stage. The final competition is a choreographed Broadway-type show and a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to see great young talent at the Fox.”

Free general admission tickets for the Fox finale will be available March 2 through MetroTix and at the Fox Box Office.
