Archers End Slide, Seek Momentum for Stretch Run

February 16, 2014

Sean Robinson and the Archers will conclude the regular
season Feb. 22 with a home contest against Lindenwood-
Belleville. Gametime is 3 p.m. at STLCC-Florissant Valley.

Following three consecutive losses entering the weekend, the St. Louis Community College men’s basketball team was in need of a quick turnaround leading up to the regular season’s final stretch.

The Archers found the elixir to their late-season slump, in the form of a 90-83 road victory over North Central College on Feb. 15.

The win improved the Archers to 16-9 with two regular season games remaining. The win also secured a season sweep over North Central, whom the Archers defeated 87-71 at STLCC-Meramec on Jan. 25.

It also signaled a step forward in the Archers’ second-half performances, which had been an area of difficulty for STLCC in recent games. The Archers saw a halftime lead overcome in an 83-68 loss to Penn Valley two days previous, and trailed by only four at the break in what was an eventual 76-65 loss to Lincoln Land in the Archers final home game against a Region XVI opponent.

The Archers concluded regular season regional play with a record of 5-1 against Region XVI teams; the lone loss was an 83-68 decision at Penn Valley last week.

Despite their up-and-down performance over the past month, the Archers will enter the regional tournament with arguably the richest individual talent of any team. STLCC is led by sophomore guard/forward Randy Reed, who paces the Archers with 21.7 points per game. He’s supported by guards Sean Robinson and Cortez Connors, who also average double-figure scoring totals.

The Archers will conclude their regular season this Saturday against Lindenwood-Belleville in the team’s home finale. The Archers enter this week with a 10-2 record in home games this year. The contest tips off at 3 p.m. at Florissant Valley.
