St. Louis Community College's Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant has been renewed for the period 2013-17, at a total of $1.2 million. CCAMPIS is a federal program that aids Pell Grant-eligible St. Louis Community College students with the cost of child care.
The CCAMPIS grant utilizes more than 40 child development centers and school districts in the St. Louis region, to assist STLCC parents with child care services.
Selena Eunice, CCAMPIS program coordinator at STLCC, said the grant will assist 200-250 students per school year.
More than 475 students have participated in the CCAMPIS program since 2009 and, when surveyed, more than 95 percent would recommend the CCAMPIS program to other STLCC students.
“The CCAMPIS grant allowed my daughter access to an excellent, licensed child care facility that I could not have otherwise afforded on my own,” said Roberta Gordon, STLCC alumna. “Without that, I would not have been able to attend college until she started kindergarten.”
Through the CCAMPIS program, STLCC also conducts educational workshops on financial management, literacy, educational play/child development, and success strategies for student-parents and their children.
Beginning in spring 2014, STLCC students who enrolled or are enrolling their children ages 6 weeks to 12 years in a quality, licensed and accredited child care center are eligible for grant funds. Those who receive CCAMPIS funds are awarded a fixed dollar amount for child care expenses for the semester based on the student’s credit hours, level of income and travel/study time.
CCAMPIS enrollment for the spring 2014 semester begins Jan. 3. For more information about the CCAMPIS grant, contact Selena Eunice at 314-513-4209 or email@example.com.
