Casey Gutting and the Archers look to rebound
from their 4-0 loss to Paradise Valley in the first
round of pool play in the NJCAA Division I Women's
Soccer Tournament. They face Laramie County
College today at noon.

Facing an early offensive barrage, St. Louis Community College fell to second-seeded Paradise Valley (Ariz.) Community College 4-0 on Monday in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament opener for both teams.

Paradise Valley grabbed a 2-0 lead within the first 25 minutes, and pushed the advantage to 3-0 with just 1:23 remaining in the first half. Though the team’s defense stiffened in the second half, the Archers were unable to mount a late rally.

Monday marked just the fourth time the Archers have been shut out this season, with the last coming in a 0-0 tie with Southwestern Illinois College on Oct. 10.

Sophomore goalie Apolonia Thomas was in the nets for all four goals against, marking just the fourth time in her two years at STLCC that an opposing team has scored four or more goals against her.

The Archers (15-6-2) will look to rebound today (Nov. 19), when they play Laramie County College at noon (central time) to conclude pool play. The game can be viewed live online at http://www.njcaatv.com/efsc/.

The contest will be the tournament opener for Laramie County, who enters the tournament as the seventh seed. A win for the Archers would mark the team’s first national tournament victory in the last two seasons.
