STLCC-Florissant Valley's Terry M. Fischer Theatre to present “Master Harold ... and the Boys"

October 02, 2013

“Master Harold … and the Boys” by Athol Fugard takes the stage at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley's Terry M. Fischer Theatre at 8 p.m. Oct. 4, 5, 11 and 12, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 6. The campus is located at 3400 Pershall Road in Ferguson.

“Master Harold ... and the Boys” is directed by Daniel J. Betzler.

"Master Harold...and the Boys" is set in Port Elizabeth in 1950. "Master Harold" is what the black employees are ordered to call young Hally, the son of a well-to-do white couple who own a fashionable tea room. Hally wanders into the establishment one day and sees two black male workers practicing for an upcoming ballroom competition by dancing together. The two employees and Hally exchange kidding rebukes, not meant to offend anyone. But after Hally receives some bad news about his father, he takes out his anger upon the workers. Efforts to smooth out the situation erupt into an all-out racial conflict.

Admission is free and all performances are open to the public. For more information, call 314-513-4488.

Special accommodations are available for persons with disabilities by calling 314-513-4477.  The performance on Oct. 11 is sign interpreted.
