The FIRST robotics season has arrived, and St. Louis Community College is hosting the 2013-14 Missouri First Tech Challenge (FTC) training camp on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The camp takes place 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Florissant Valley campus, 3400 Pershall Road.

All sessions will be held in the Engineering building.

Experts from PTC, National Instruments and RoboMatter will join local teams and experts to spend a full day exploring everything FTC. This free event is open to all FTC students, mentors and teachers.

“This is at least the second year that we have had this event with participation from industry members,” said Steve Ehlen, engineering technology center supervisor and instructor at STLCC.

Many informative sessions are scheduled throughout the day. Participants will have an opportunity to meet with a panel of local judges who have   judged the FIRST World Championship held in St. Louis. The judges will answer questions and help give teams an insight into what it takes to compete at the international level.

Participants also will have a chance to meet with successful rookie and veteran teams to discuss robotics.

In a question-and-answer session with the planning committee, coaches will have the opportunity to discuss league play and topics affecting FTC and what it means to teams in Missouri and Southern Illinois.

“The training camp is a way to bring the best of what we have to offer in FIRST together. Teams will be helping teams raise the bar for this year’s game, Block Party,” said Tom McGovern, engineering and technology professor at STLCC and member of the Missouri FIRST FTC Planning Committee.
