The weather was cooperative June 14, as St. Louis Community College - Meramec kicked off its summer edition of the popular “Friday Night Movie” series with a screening of “Oz the Great and Powerful.”

The summer edition, held in the Student Center Quadrangle, is an outdoor event that provides a fun, safe and inexpensive evening of entertainment. For only $1, STLCC students, friends, family and the surrounding community can bring their blankets and lawn chairs and see a recent Hollywood hit under the stars. Popcorn and soda are included.

“Showing the movies outdoors is cool,” said Steve Brady, manager of Campus Life at the Meramec campus. “It’s a whole different atmosphere than being stuck indoors watching a movie; you’re not crammed in next to someone, you can see the stars and feel the breeze, you can sit on your own comfortable lawn chair or spread out a blanket and lay down. It’s something fun and different.”

In case of inclement weather, the event is moved indoors to the Student Center Commons. Seating for indoor movies is available.

Upcoming summer movies include “Olympus Has Fallen” (Rated R) June 21 and “Flight” (Rated R) June 28.
