June 04, 2013

Youthbuild campus tourSt. Louis Community College’s Workforce Solutions Group and Enrollment Management are partnering with St. Louis YouthBuild to help students transition to careers or higher education.

On May 29, eight YouthBuild students visited the Florissant Valley campus to learn about the various programs offered at STLCC.

St. Louis YouthBuild is an alternative school/pre-apprenticeship program that is sponsored by the Carpenter’s Joint Training Fund of St. Louis. It assists young men and women with GED preparation.

All students receive:

  • Soft-skills education that prepares them to meet and exceed their academic and career aspirations.
  • Ongoing instruction focused on building work-ready attitudes, leadership development training, basic computer skills, occupational training and opportunities to earn certifications.
  •  A stipend.
  •  Assistance with employment and college placement.

“Students learned about the career and technical programs as well as accelerated workforce programs, and received a campus tour,” said Carla Jordan, career and technical education specialist at STLCC.

The goal of the campus tour was to inform students about the educational choices they have and familiarize them with resources that are available to help them succeed.
