The biennial student exhibit, “Boardwalk: A Regional Juried Exhibition of Interior Design,” is slated Feb. 28-March 29 in the Contemporary Art Gallery at St. Louis Community College-Meramec, 11333 Big Bend Road.
Originating more than 10 years ago, this exhibit features work from Meramec interior design students. It highlights some of the best student work undertaken in different areas of interior design, including residential, office design, retail, and kitchen and bath design. The projects are judged by professional interior designers from local and regional chapters of the American Society of Interior Designers, the International Interior Design Association and the National Kitchen and Bath Association. Seven of the area’s top interior design colleges and universities are invited to participate in the exhibition.
“The fact that the projects are judged by professional interior designers does put extra pressure on the students,” said Erin LeClerc, coordinator of the interior design program at Meramec. “Some of these designers may become potential employers, and the students want to make a good impression on them.
“I am constantly amazed at the work our students produce at St. Louis Community College,” LeClerc added. “They work diligently to produce projects that compete against four-year schools. Our students have won scholarships and awards at local, regional and national levels.”
An opening reception will be held 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is closed Sundays and holidays, and will be closed March 11-16 for spring break.
