Archers Suffer Rare Road Loss

January 20, 2013

Nick Lawshe tied for the team lead with 11 points in the
Archers' 64-61 road loss to North  Central College Jan. 19.

For the second straight game, an opponent’s strong performance from 3-point range sent the Archers home with a loss.

North Central College rallied from a narrow first-half deficit and, on the strength of seven 3-point baskets, downed the Archers 64-61.

The loss was the third in a row for STLCC, which fell to 14-5 on the year.

Prior to the current skid, STLCC had not lost consecutive games at any point this season. The Archers entered halftime leading 31-30, but struggled to find their way to the free-throw line, where they sank just eight of their attempts on the day.

The Archers’ showing from 3-point range also did not match that of North Central, as STLCC connected on just three attempts from the perimeter.

STLCC was led in scoring by freshman guard Kuna Lahai-Pumagoi (Edwardsville) and sophomore forward Nick Lawshe (McCluer North), who each finished with 11 points.

The loss was just the second on the road this year for the Archers, who entered the game 6-1 in games played away from STLCC-Forest Park.

STLCC will have plenty of opportunities to re-establish their success on the road over the next two weeks, as the Archers’ next four games will also be on the road. They will look to snap their three-game skid Tuesday (Jan. 22), when they travel to Poplar Bluff to take on Midwest Community College Athletic Conference foe Three Rivers Community College.
