For the second consecutive year, St. Louis Community College will host some of the top junior college basketball talent in the Midwest in the STLCC Shootout on Dec. 8 at the STLCC-Forest Park campus gymnasium.

Returning programs to this year’s shootout include Southwestern Illinois College, Three Rivers Community College, Moberly Area Community College, Mineral Area Community College and host STLCC. Newcomers to the 2012 Shootout include John A. Logan College, Shawnee Community College, and Lewis and Clark Community College.

The shootout will feature three of the most successful NJCAA coaches of all time, including Gene Bess of Three Rivers, Jay Harrington of SWIC and Randy Albrecht of STLCC. Bess, Harrington and Albrecht rank first, fifth and eighth, respectively, among active coaches in wins.

The four-game shootout schedule gets under way at 1 p.m. Sunday, when STLCC squares off against Lewis and Clark.

Last year’s event saw 21 players who continued on to four-year schools, including seven at the NCAA Division I level.

This year’s shootout includes three teams that have received attention in national rankings. Mineral Area and Moberly Area received votes in the most recent NJCAA Division I poll. STLCC is ranked 25th in Division II.
