Tuesday afternoon was a tale of two halves for the STLCC men’s soccer team.

After being held to a single goal and clinging to a 1-1 tie against Metropolitan Community College-Blue River, the Archers erupted for four second-half goals and pulled away to a 5-2 win.

Ryan Sanfilippo (Hazelwood Central) scored the Archers’ lone goal in the first half. Jesus Morales (Farmington), Joe Iannazzone (Eureka), Jeff Shipman (Kirkwood) and Yacob Brown (Excelsior) each scored second-half goals.

Sophomore forward Tolga Bolen (Turkey) assisted on each second-half goal as the Archers fed him the ball in the offensive third of the field.

Head coach Dan O’Keefe, who has implored his team to play with an increased intensity and offensive aggressiveness early this season, is beginning to see the fruits of the Archers’ labor.

“Everything we’ve worked on in practice is starting to show,” O’Keefe said. “It’s all starting to come together.”

The win runs the Archers’ unbeaten streak to four games, at 3-0-1. Up next for STLCC is Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods on Thursday (Sept. 20) at Florissant Valley. The Archers are 3-2-1 in home contests this season.
