
AAWCC Chapter Awards Scholarships, Honors Retirees

The St. Louis Community College chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges recently held a spring celebration to honor seven scholarship recipients and recognize five college retirees.
The seven scholarship recipients are Asma Al-Amery and Brandii Palmisano from Meramec; Donna Brandy and Donald Keeper from Florissant Valley; Gail Dickson and Randy Hannah from Forest Park; and Britni Fischer from Wildwood. Each was awarded $750.
Retirees recognized were Bonnie Sanguinet, senior manager of library and instructional resources at Meramec; Laura Sterman, vice president of student affairs at Florissant Valley; Pat Finnell, associate professor in nursing at Florissant Valley; Lori Thompson, director of physical facilities; and Roy Shaneberger, acting director of human resources.

The American Association of Women in Community Colleges was organized in 1973 and became a council of the American Association of Community Colleges in 1974.
The STLCC chapter was formed in 1997. Membership is open to faculty, staff, students, administrators and trustees.
STLCC’s chapter is part of AAWCC Region VII, which includes Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. The chapter works to create leadership, educational and networking opportunities at STLCC. It serves the community with student scholarships, donations to local charities and special events. It is committed to equity and excellence in education and employment for women in community colleges through social involvement and volunteer services, broad and inclusive membership, and financial support through scholarships and charitable donations.
