Prior to taking the post with the state of Missouri, Miller was self-employed as a consultant in human resources, government relations and media-talent management.

A professional motivational speaker, Miller also is a commercial actor who appeared in numerous commercials, produced videos and served as a voice-over artist.

Miller is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management, St. Louis Leadership Center (FOCUS St. Louis), and the Human Resource Management Association. He is a past member of the College of Healthcare Executives, a past board member for the Alzheimer’s Association and past president of 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis.
