Kent Kay, vice president for finance and administration at National Louis University in Chicago, Ill., has been appointed vice chancellor for finance and administration at St. Louis Community College.

Kay’s appointment was approved by the STLCC Board of Trustees at its April 26 meeting. Kay will begin his duties on June 4. He replaces Carla Chance, who left STLCC last fall to become the vice president for administration at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

“We are very excited to have Kent Kay join the team at STLCC,” said Chancellor Myrtle E.B. Dorsey. “His experiences are a great fit for the college.”

Kay, a certified public accountant, has 30 years of experience in public accounting and education. In his most recent position at National Louis University, Kay has been responsible for accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, purchasing, grant and contract accounting, student finances, facilities and investment.

Throughout his professional career, Kay has coordinated legislative appropriation requests, overseen the preparation and presentation of operating and capital budgets, evaluated and implemented accounting systems, and managed business functions.

Prior to his appointment at National Louis University in 2008, Kay served for five years as the chief financial officer at Missouri State University. Other higher education experience includes six years in the University of Alabama System as the vice chancellor for financial affairs (2001), general auditor and director of the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) Health System Internal audit (1999), director of the Internal Audit office at UAB (1997). He also served as the director of the Internal Audit office at Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for nearly five years.

Kay also served as the business manager for the Palestine (Texas) Independent School District from 1987-91, and was a CPA for two firms in Texas between 1977 and 1987.

Kay holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Texas Tech University, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Middle Tennessee State University.
