Karen Mayes Was Recognized as a Finalist in the 2012 Excellence in Nursing Awards

April 25, 2012

Karen Mayes, Director of Nursing Education, at St. Louis Community College, was recognized as a finalist in the 2012 Excellence in Nursing Awards sponsored by St. Louis Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jarret Medlin and AT HOME Editor-in-Chief Christy Marshal last week.

The Excellence in Nursing Awards included 18 categories. Ms. Mayes was a finalist in the Educator categories. St. Louis Magazine received over 300 nominations for the awards contest. "The outstanding level of health care throughout our region would not be possible without its talented, hard working nurses," said Editor-in-Chief Jarrett Medlin. "It's our hope that these awards will shed light on a field that will grow ever more important in the years to come."

The selection committee included Karen Drenkard, executive director of the American Nurses Credentialing Center; Lora Lacey-Haun, dean of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing, Jill Kliethermes, CEO of Missouri Nurses Association; and Diane Twedell, vice president and chief nursing officer of the Austin Medical Center.

"Karen's districtwide leadership in the college's nursing program has continued to promote excellence in learning opportunities for the students we serve," said Donna Dare, vice chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs. "Under her leadership, our program remains fully accredited, and the outcomes for students who complete our program are outstanding."
