STLCC Adds Kirkwood’s Martin, Cahokia’s Suggs for 2012-2013 Hoops Season

April 24, 2012

Coming off a 20-win season and a return trip to the NJCAA tournament, St. Louis Community College's women's basketball coaching staff has taken little time to re-stock for the 2012-2013 campaign. The Archers announced their first two additions Monday, adding Kirkwood senior guard Kalah Martin and Cahokia senior guard Diamond Suggs.

Martin was a key contributor at both ends of the floor for the Suburban South conference champion Pioneers this winter, averaging 7.5 points per game and leading all Kirkwood guards with 3.3 rebounds per contest. Martin was named second-team all-conference in the Suburban South, one of six Pioneers to garner all-conference honors.

Suggs, a first-team all-South Seven Conference player, established herself as one of the premier guards in the Metro East this season, pouring in 14.8 points per game for Cahokia. The 5' 9" Suggs averaged a team-best 2.5 steals per game and was also Cahokia's top three-point threat, connecting on 25 of her 83 attempts from beyond the arc.

The additions supplement what was already a talented stable of guards for STLCC. The Archers return guards Cierra Gaines (Edwardsville), Datona Ball (Quincy) and Shakaunna Futrell (Hazelwood West), who all averaged double figures in scoring during the 2011-2012 season, averaging a combined 37 points per game.
