STLCC-Florissant Valley Celebrates Earth Day

March 27, 2012

St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley will host the Sixth Annual Green Fair, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, in the quad area on campus, 3400 Pershall Road.

In the event of inclement weather, the Green Fair will take place in the Student Center Multipurpose Room.

STLCC-Florissant Valley’s Green Fair began six years ago to commemorate Earth Day. Since then, the event has grown. The goal of the Green Fair is to make the community aware of the many “green” options available, including organic and community gardens, cleaning products, electric vehicles and more.

Various companies and organizations in the St. Louis area will conduct demonstrations and provide information about their services. Entertaiment will be provided by The Green Strum Band.

In October 2008, Florissant Valley President Marcia Pfeiffer signed the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education President’s Climate Commitment. This commitment dictates that colleges and universities must exercise leadership in their communities and throughout society by modeling ways to eliminate global warming emissions, and by initiating the development of a comprehensive plan to achieve climate neutrality. The Green Fair is just one of several ways STLCC-Florissant Valley seeks to live up to that commitment.

The Green Fair is sponsored by the STLCC Sustainability Committee.
