Daryl L. Cothran -- Subdistrict 1

Daryl Cothran

Daryl L. Cothran of Florissant currently is the assistant director of the St. Louis County Department of Human Services’ Workforce Development division. He is responsible for the management of three St. Louis County Missouri Next Generation Career Centers.

“St. Louis Community College is one of the more valuable assets in our region,” Cothran said. “This institution has been a building block for many individuals who seek a brighter future and a very useful resource to the businesses in our community seeking a highly trained and educated workforce.  I recognize the importance of preserving and building upon the greatness of this institution.

“As a member of the STLCC Board of Trustees, I will work toward maintaining STLCC as a vital part of the postsecondary education delivery system in the St. Louis region. I will foster an institution that puts the community and students first. I will facilitate more collaboration between governmental agencies, the business community and non-profit organizations to identify funding sources for short-term workforce development skills training. The promotion of a financially accountable and transparent administration will be one of my priorities. I believe the combination of my financial background, community development and workforce development experience will be an asset to the Board of Trustees.”

Cothran was employed as a financial consultant from 1995-2003 by A.G. Edwards & Sons, and was a senior financial analyst from 1979-95 for the McDonnell Douglas Corp.

Cothran has served on several local boards and commissions, including alderman of the City of Pasadena Hills and as a 21st Circuit Judicial Commissioner for the state of Missouri. He served on Tax Increment Financing Commissions for the City of Dellwood (2005) and the City of St. Ann (2006), as well as the board of the St. Louis County Enhanced Enterprise Zone (2006). He also served on the board of The Friends of Fort Bellefontaine Park 2006-09.

Cothran is a recipient of the 1995 Community Service Award from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the 1994 McDonnell Douglas Teammate of Distinction Award.

Cothran holds a master’s degree in finance from Webster University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He and his wife Cathy have been married for 30 years.
