The beat goes on for the St. Louis Community College men’s basketball team.

The Archers knocked off McKendree University’s junior varsity 93-72 Wednesday, winning for the eight consecutive game and 10th time in their last 11 contests.

Sophomore forward Ryun Davis (McCluer North), who entered the game leading the Archers with 15.4 points per game, scored a game-high 22 on Wednesday, while also snagging 10 rebounds for a double-double.

The Archers shot 48 percent from the field in the game, and had five different players score in double-digits. Sophomore guard Clyde Jeffers (Ladue), playing in just his sixth game since becoming eligible in January, scored 12 points in his 15 minutes on the floor.

Despite the win, head coach Randy Albrecht tempered his enthusiasm with a win over a junior varsity team.

“When you’re on a streak like this, you almost hate to play a JV, because you need to keep being challenged,” Albrecht said.

They Archers surely will be challenged this weekend, when they travel to Penn Valley in a key Region XVI matchup. The Archers have defeated the Scouts in four straight meetings dating back to last year, including a 78-74 win less than two weeks ago, but Albrecht knows that streak is a tenuous one.

“That’s about as long a streak as anyone has had against each other since I was at Meramec,” Albrecht said. “Five would be huge for us. I don’t see it as a ‘must’ game, but it’s a road test for us.”

The victory also guaranteed the Archers (16-6) of a winning season, the 28th consecutive winning campaign for Albrecht.
