Guard Datona Ball burned Brevard Community College for
25 points in the Archers' 73-69 loss in Florida

For the second consecutive game, the St. Louis Community College women’s basketball team entered the final minute of play with a chance to come away with a victory. Also for the second straight contest, STLCC came up two baskets short, falling 73-69 to Brevard Community College Jan. 6 in Melbourne, Fla.

Due to a second-half rally by the Tornadoes, the Archers were denied of a victory during a two-game Florida visit.

The Archers’ prospects looked bright entering the second half, as STLCC led Brevard 35-31 at the break. But the Tornados rallied in the second half and held on for the victory. The loss dropped the Archers to 5-7 on the year, the first time this year they have been two games below the .500 mark.

STLCC received plenty of offense from freshmen guards Datona Ball (Quincy, Ill.) and Shakaunna Futrell (Hazelwood West). Ball registered a game-high 25 points for the Archers, and Futrell poured in 18. Ball and Futrell have certainly been consistent in their offensive contributions this year. The backcourt duo has combined for 24 points a game this year, as they currently rank first and second, respectively, in scoring this season for the Archers.

The Archers return home for their next two contests, against Cottey College on Nov. 14 and on Nov. 19 against Shawnee Community College, which also signals resumption of Midwest Community College Athletic Conference play for STLCC. The Archers look to rebound from an early 0-2 start against conference opponents. However, the Archers have played some of their best basketball at home, where they have collected three of their five victories this season.
