Darryn Anderson and the men’s basketball coaching staff had been waiting for a day like this.

Finally healthy after a sprained ankle sapped him of his running and cutting ability, Anderson (Hazelwood Central) broke out Saturday with a team-high 18 points in a 79-61 victory over Westminster College’s junior varsity.

Anderson, who had played only sparingly previously this year, led a balanced offensive attack for the Archers. Toraino Hellems (Oakville), Jamese Taylor (Fort Zumwalt North) and Ryun Davis (McCluer North) also posted double-figure scoring totals.

The Archers took control of the game early, jumping out to a 37-25 halftime lead, before providing second-half minutes to the bench. Freshman Charlie Mueller (Lindbergh) scored seven points in a reserve role. The Archers found most of their offensive production in the paint, as STLCC connected on just one three-pointer all afternoon. There was minimal contact in the post, however, as the Archers connected on just 10 free throws on the afternoon, their lowest total of the season.

The win was the third consecutive for STLCC, and improved the team’s record to 6-3. The Archers will travel to Park Hills, Mo., on Wednesday to take on Mineral Area College. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
