Thomas Zirkle Composes Music for Luggage Commercial
December 21, 2011
Thomas Zirkle, associate professor and music coordinator at St. Louis Community College - Forest Park, composed and performed the song used in an internet commercial introducing the Spectra Collection from Swiss Army's Victorinox Travel Gear line. He recorded it in August, and was hired by St. Louis company Bus 9 Productions for the assignment.

“They called me and the basic ideas was to play luggage as instruments,” he said. “I recorded all the music in a studio. The actors are pretending to play – the sound is all me.”
Zirkle, who has taught at Forest Park since 2004 and has played percussion with several bands in St. Louis, including The Wheat Brothers and HaZMat with Matt Henry of UMSL, said this was his first composing assignment for a commercial. He also was thrilled to perform the audio, too.
“I’m very excited. I’m amazed at how well it turned out,” he said.
Zirkle was honored, along with Casey Shiller of Culinary Arts, as Faculty of the Year for the 2009-2010 school year.
