Gallery Exhibit Has International Flavor

Social Design in the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro"

The Meramec Contemporary Art Gallery presents “Design em Santuários Humilde: Collaboration, Research, and Social Design in the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro” from Dec. 3 – Jan. 15, with an opening reception Thursday, Dec. 8, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The exhibit features the work of Michael Swoboda, assistant professor at St. Louis Community College- Meramec, and Fernando Carvalho, professor at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro.

These two colleagues have collaborated on graphic design, industrial design and social design projects for more than a decade and across two continents. This exhibition documents and displays their research and work in hospitals, the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and in university institutions through photography, video, product development and graphic design.

Admission and opening reception are free and open to the public.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Friday; and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is closed Sundays and holidays, and Dec. 23-Jan. 2.
