December 08, 2011

Freshman forward Shakaunna Futrell had another
double-digit scoring performance for the Archers with
16 points in a 79-69 loss to Mineral Area College.

For just the second time this year, St. Louis Community College traveled away from Forest Park and did not come home with a win.

The Archers fell, 79-69 to Mineral Area College Wednesday, in a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate.

STLCC trailed by just three at halftime, at 39-36, but was unable to close the gap in the second half. The loss was the third consecutive overall for STLCC, and dropped the team’s record to 4-4.

The Archers were led in scoring by freshman forward Datona Ball (Quincy, Ill.) with 19 points. Freshman guard Shakaunna Futrell (Hazelwood West) continued a string of strong performances, finishing with 16 points. Sophomore forward Shonnisha Davis (Normandy) successfully returned from a sprained ankle that sidelined her last weekend, as she finished the night with a double-double, totaling 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Archers will resume play Saturday, when they travel to Hillsboro to take on Jefferson College in the Region XVI opener. Jefferson College is 9-2 on the season. Jefferson and STLCC have shared only one common opponent through the first month of the season – Salt Lake College – who defeated Jefferson 63-58 on Dec. 1. The Archers dropped a 59-51 decision to Salt Lake last weekend in the STLCC Classic.
