Archers Clobber Spartans

squad.

With the number of close games the St. Louis Community College men’s basketball team has faced this year, it almost made one wonder how they would respond with a large lead.

Consider that concern alleviated.

The Archers dominated Wednesday’s game against Missouri Baptist University’s junior varsity throughout, cruising past the Spartans 81-39. Aside from three-point shooting, of which the Archers connected on one of eight attempts, STLCC did not struggle in a major statistical area.

The Archers jumped out to a 39-16 lead at the half, and did not let up. For the game, STLCC shot 43 percent from the floor, and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

The team’s success wasn’t limited to scoring. The Archers out-rebounded MBU 53-29, their greatest margin of success in that area this year.

Mueller was one of three players in double
figures with 12 points.

Sophomore forward Kyle Rice (Kirkwood) led the way for STLCC with 13 points, and freshman Charlie Mueller (Lindbergh) and sophomore Jordan Jones (Marquette) each scored 12.

With the large second-half lead, freshmen Lance Seiler (Leopold) and Enis Mehmedovic (Bayless), along with sophomore Darryn Anderson (Hazelwood Central), saw plenty of action in the second half.

“It’s early in the year, and we needed some confidence. We needed a lot of guys to contribute,” STLCC head coach Randy Albrecht said. “They all made a lot of contributions, but there’s still a lot of work to be done.”

The win improved the Archers’ record to 5-3. Up next for STLCC is the Westminster College junior varsity Saturday in Columbia, Mo.
