Archers Cruise Past Lincoln Trail

November 23, 2011

After closing out a weekend trip to Chicago with a 78-64 loss to Malcolm X College, the Archers were in need of a positive outcome heading into an eight-day layoff. They found that outcome Tuesday night, in the form of a 73-54 drubbing of host Lincoln Trail College.

In the team’s final road game until Dec. 7, the Archers made quick work of their opponent, registering their second-highest scoring total on the young season.

The Archers took control of the game with a 35-22 halftime lead. In what has become a continuing trend, STLCC received significant offensive contributions from multiple players. Freshman forward Datona Ball (Quincy, Ill.) led the way with a season-high 21 points, and was followed closely by freshman guard Shakaunna Futrell (Hazelwood West) with 17. Freshman guards Cierra Gaines (Edwardsville) and Brooke Sanders (Jackson, Mo.) each scored 10, marking the fourth consecutive game to start the season with three or more players scoring in double figures.

STLCC improved to 3-1 on the year, including a 2-1 mark on the road.

The Archers will emerge from their upcoming eight-day layoff with a flurry of three games in a four-day span. They will host Logan College of Chiropractic at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Forest Park. The contest marks the two teams’ second meeting in a three-week span.

Immediately following that contest is the STLCC Classic Dec. 2-3, which will pit the Archers against Salt Lake College and Kaskaskia College.
