Archers Shut Out by Lewis and Clark to Close Regular Season

October 21, 2011

The St. Louis Community College women's soccer team ended its regular season with a thud on Thursday night at Lewis and Clark Community College, falling to the Trailblazers, 3-0.

Lewis and Clark wasted no time opening the scoring, punching in the first goal just 14 seconds into the game. The Trailblazers added a second goal in the 15th minute. The Archers were able to remain in the game at that point, and kept the Trailblazers at bay until they scored the third and final goal of the match in the 80th minute.

The loss ended a three-game winning streak for STLCC and dropped the Archers to 10-9 on the season, including 0-2 against Lewis and Clark. The shutout also was just the second of the year for the Archers, who were last blanked Sept. 15 in a 3-0 loss to Southwestern Illinois College. The Archers now look ahead to their preparation for postseason play.

The Archers positioned themselves for the postseason by winning three of their final four games, and boast an offense that has produced three or more goals in 11 of 19 games. The Region XVI Tournament begins Oct. 28. Pairings and schedules have not yet been released.
