Archers Top St. Charles to Reach .500 Mark

in STLCC's 4-2 win over St. Charles.

Returning to what has proven to be a trusted path to victory, St. Louis Community College used a diversified scoring attack to defeat St. Charles Community College 4-2 on Tuesday.

The Archers carried a 2-1 lead into halftime after sophomore midfielder Sarah Cook (Northwest) and freshman forward Katie Westermann-Long (Francis Howell Central) netted goals.

Freshman midfielder Katie Foytlin (Belleville East) assisted on both goals. Foytlin entered the game with a team-high 12 assists on the season.

Sophomore forward Erica Kaiping (Waterloo, Ill.) continued her recent torrid scoring pace by notching her 10th goal of the season in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Jena Shaw (St. Francis Borgia) added her first goal of the season in the 71st minute to provide a comfortable lead. St. Charles capped its scoring in the 84th minute.

Freshman goalie Meggin Werner (Mehlville) earned the win by playing all 90 minutes of Tuesday’s contest. Werner saved six of eight shots on goal.

With the win, STLCC (8-8) returned to the .500 mark on the season.

The Archers have two more home games this week, as they host Lindenwood University-Belleville Thursday (Oct. 13) at 4 p.m. at Meramec, before concluding their 2011 home schedule Saturday (Oct. 16) against Dakota Technical College. The game is part of a men’s and women’s doubleheader at Florissant Valley. The women’s game kicks off at 11 a.m., and the men follow at 1 p.m.
