Men’s Soccer Struggles at Lincoln College

October 03, 2011

Entering Sunday’s game at Lincoln College, STLCC had played 11 games, and the scoring margin exceeded two only once. Taking that trend into consideration, the team’s 9-0 loss to Lincoln Sunday appeared even more of an aberration.

Lincoln scored twice in the first half before piling on with seven more goals in the second half to cruise to the win.

Archers head coach Mike Mayberry credited Lincoln, but remains largely unconcerned with his team at this point in the year.

“We certainly underperformed, but I do feel like the team we played against today is as good or better than any competition we’ve seen this year,” Mayberry said. “How we come out and play Tuesday is going to be a lot more concerning to me than how this game went.”

That foe on Tuesday (Oct. 4) is Southwestern Illinois College. The road match gets under way at 4 p.m. The Archers then will travel to Godfrey, Ill., to play Lewis and Clark Community College on Thursday (Oct. 6).
