Archers Pick Up Third Victory

September 26, 2011

The Archers got an idea of where they stand in their region this past weekend, when they traveled to Lee’s Summit, Mo., for the Region XVI Pre-Tournament. STLCC went 1-2 in the tournament, defeating Cottey College in three sets, and dropping two-set matches to Northeast Oklahoma A&M University and Longview College.

Head coach Johnna Kinney saw flashes of brilliance from her team, but said plenty of work remains to be done before the Region XVI Tournament in November.

“We’ve been very inconsistent,” Kinney said. “We need to be more aggressive and more consistent.”

Kinney praised the performance of her team earlier in the week against Mineral Area College, as STLCC remained competitive throughout despite a three-set loss. However, she maintained that the repetition of that level of performance has been lacking.

“We’re below where I would like us to be,” Kinney said. “We would have a good run and then dig ourselves into a hole, and that was true the whole weekend.”

The Archers return to action Wednesday (Sept. 28), when they host Lewis and Clark Community College. The Trailblazers defeated STLCC in the two teams’ only other meeting this year. The match gets under way at 6:30 p.m. at the Florissant Valley campus.
