Deborah Henry Receives Humanitarian Award

August 31, 2011

Deborah Henry, assistant professor of history at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, has been presented with the Thomas J. Finan Jr. Humanitarian Award by the St. Louis Construction News and Review at its annual Regional Excellence Awards Luncheon. Henry was recognized earlier this year by the St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers for more than two decades as a champion for diversity in construction.

Henry assisted in the creation of the Missouri Women in the Trades chapter in St. Louis, served as the first board president of the Association for Construction Careers, Education and Support Services and was instrumental in developing a performance-based scorecard for measurement of the many regional construction-related pre-apprentice programs.

Henry started in construction as an office worker for a developer and later became one of the first female construction project managers in St. Louis before pursuing an academic career. Her doctoral dissertation addressed the topic of diversity in the St. Louis construction industry.
