STLCC-Meramec Student Newspaper Is SPJ Regional Award Finalist

March 22, 2011

The Montage, St. Louis Community College-Meramec's student newspaper, has been recognized as a regional finalist for a Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Annually, the Society of Professional Journalists presents the Mark of Excellence Awards honoring the best in student journalism. The awards offer categories for print, radio, television and online collegiate journalism.

The Montage placed in the General News Reporting category in the two-year college division for its February 2010 “Forgotten Genocide” series produced by Joseph Douglas, Andrea Royals, Anna Nowotny and Eric Aikin.

National advancers will be announced at the Region 7 Spring Conference April 8-9 in Overland Park, Kan. The first-place entries from each region will compete at the national level, with different panels of judges selecting one national first-place winner in each category. These winners will be honored at the SPJ Convention and National Journalism Conference in the fall.
