“I go places. I write stuff. I talk about it.”

This is how Kelsey Timmerman describes himself on his website. He will be speaking Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the Meramec Theatre. Admission is free; seating is general admission.

Timmerman was an undercover underwear buyer in Bangladesh and became fascinated with the clothes he was wearing and where they came from. In a journey that took him around the world, Timmerman authored “Where Am I Wearing? A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories and People That Make Our Clothes.” The book, published in December 2008, has garnered national attention and press, including Time, U.S. News & World Report, Christian Science Monitor, and ABCNews.com.

Timmerman’s travels have taken him to countries like Cambodia, Nicaragua, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Ireland in a quest to connect people through words and pictures.

“I believe that if we reduce global issues to the stories of individual people, we can better see ourselves, our parents, our sons and daughters, and our hopes and struggles in one another,” Timmerman says.

After his speech, Timmerman will be signing his book, which will be available for purchase on-site or in advance at the Meramec Bookstore.
