Randy Albrecht, coach of the men’s basketball team at St. Louis Community College-Meramec, became the newest member of college basketball’s 700-win club Nov. 29 with a 93-53 win over the Fontbonne University junior varsity team.

Albrecht began his collegiate head coaching career at Saint Louis University in 1974, and won 32 games with the Billikens through 1977. Now in his 34th year at Meramec, Albrecht has 668 wins and has led the Magic to 25 consecutive winning seasons.

With all of his success, which includes runner-up and third-place finishes at the National Junior College Athletic Association Basketball Tournament, Albrecht is a member of three athletic halls of fame: Meramec Athletics, NJCAA and the Missouri Basketball Coaches. In addition to coaching the Magic, Albrecht created and supervises the Meramec Holiday Tournament, now in its 33rd year. The tournament features many of the area’s top high school boys’ basketball teams.

Albrecht will be honored in a halftime ceremony during the 3 p.m. game on Dec. 12 at the Rawlings Juco Shootout, which will be held at Meramec.
