Cindy Hess has served as executive vice president and chief academic officer of Craven Community College since 2005.

Under her leadership, the college has been successfully reaccredited, and has revitalized its processes of employee appraisal, program review and assessment of student learning outcomes. Program offerings also have expanded, with particular emphases on health care and advanced manufacturing.

Prior to her work in North Carolina, Hess held academic leadership positions for 10 years at Tulsa Community College. She served as provost of the Northeast campus, dean of instruction at the West campus, and chair of liberal arts at the Southeast campus. She also served two years as the assistant department head for general education at Oklahoma State University’s Technical branch. Hess also has teaching experience at the university, community college and secondary school levels.

Hess’ doctorate in higher education administration, master’s in curriculum and instruction, and bachelor’s in English all are from Oklahoma State University.
