Water Indeed Matters

A series of seminars that will examine water issues on from a variety of perspectives will be offered beginning March 17.

The Water Matters Seminar Series is cosponsored by St. Louis Community College, Saint Louis University and the Harris World Ecology Center of University of Missouri-St. Louis. It is scheduled 7:30-9:30 a.m. for five consecutive Wednesdays at DuBourg Hall, 221 N. Grand Blvd.

This seminar series is a spin-off of the Energy Matters series held in fall 2009. Speakers include Chad Pregracke, founder of Living Lands and Water; Dr. Rip Sparks, director of research at the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center; Ben Abell, professor of meteorology at Saint Louis University and former KWMU-FM meteorologist; Jean Ponzi, radio host of "Earthworms" and green resources manager at the EarthWays Center at the Missouri Botanical Gardens; and Patrick Osborne, executive director of the Whitney R. Harris World Ecology Center at UMSL. Peggy Moody, districtwide sustainability coordinator, and Mark Manteuffel, biology faculty member at STLCC-Florissant Valley, will contribute. Moody will host the series kickoff series and the session on global water issues. Manteuffel, with several students from the Florissant Valley campus, will present experiences traveling internationally to work in areas with water challenges.
