The St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees at its March 25 meeting approved the appointment of Bill Lane, retired vice president of sales for AT&T, as the executive director of the STLCC Foundation. He will assume these duties April 6.

“I am confident that Bill Lane’s successful track record of more than 30 years at AT&T will contribute to the growth and productivity of the St. Louis Community College Foundation,” said Zelema Harris, STLCC chancellor.

Lane was employed in progressively responsible management positions during his three decades with AT&T. As vice president of sales, Lane was responsible for business accounts for a five-state sales force of 500-plus professionals. The scope of his duties included revenue growth, market planning, business development, training and personnel development.

“With my sales background, my understanding of the dynamics of partnerships and my knowledge of the St. Louis business community, I believe I can bring high levels of success to fundraising efforts across foundations, businesses and individual giving,” Lane said.

Lane also held leadership positions in marketing, operations, and strategic planning for AT&T. A St. Louis native, Lane held positions based in St. Louis for many years.  In addition to his employment in St. Louis, he also had assignments for AT&T in Little Rock, San Antonio and Dallas.
Lane has served as campaign chair of United Way campaigns in St. Louis and San Antonio, and provided volunteer support for the St. Louis Sport Commission’s National Sportsmanship Award. He also served as a board vice president for the non-profit entity responsible for managing the Valero Texas Open, one of the highest producing charitable events on the PGA Tour.

Lane earned his master’s degree in data processing from Washington University, and he holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

The St. Louis Community College Foundation creates and fosters community linkages that support and advance the college’s mission of providing educational opportunities for its students and the community by soliciting and administering gifts and funds for college scholarships and programs, capital projects and endowment.
