STLCC Joins the St. Louis Green Business Challenge

March 01, 2010

St. Louis Community College's Cosand Center has agreed to join area businesses to form green teams and develop strategies to reduce energy consumption and waste.

The intent is to encourage companies to expand their sustainability programs and reduce the environmental impact from company operations. The goal is to outdo the baseline that is established to measure current practices.

The challenge begins in March when the baseline is due, and continues until October when an Advisory Committee selects the winners in several categories. Categories include forming green teams, energy reduction, waste management, clean transportation and outreach. Each sustainable goal is worth a specific number of points out of a possible 150 points, with an opportunity for extra points for innovation strategies like measuring carbon footprint or using renewable energy on site. Awards are based on the growth from the baseline score.
