Well-known television and radio personality Todd Newton returns to his alma mater Friday, September 25, for a Meramec Alumni Association Walk of Fame Induction ceremony. The Meramec Alumni Association is honoring Newton as an STLCC student who went on to a successful career as a direct result of his experience at Meramec. Newton credits faculty member Carol Owens, professor in broadcast media, with sparking his interest and enthusiasm for a career in radio and television. From a job as local radio DJ Rick Idol his future took off; today he is a successful TV show host and is on the rise as one of the leading life coaches in the U.S.

As part of the weekend festivities, Newton will host the Alumni Association’s fundraiser, a Texas Hold’em Tournament, on the evening of the 25th. The event is being held in partnership with Newton’s favorite organization, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, and will raise money for both Parkinson’s research and STLCC student scholarships. “We are excited about having the opportunity to partner with Team Fox,” said Alumni Association President Suzette Johannsen “It will allow us to raise money for two great causes; plus, we’re able to support Todd—our celebrity alum—in his desire to help an organization near and dear to his heart. We feel really good about that.”

The fundraising partnership will continue on Saturday, September 26, when Newton will be on hand early in the morning to start the Meramec Alumni Association “Running with the Fox” 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds will again benefit both the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and STLCC student scholarships.
