STLCC-Florissant Valley to Host Blood Drive

September 23, 2009

Florissant Valley will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30 in the Student Center Multipurpose room on the Florissant Valley campus, 3400 Pershall Road.

One of the most common reasons for a blood donation to be rejected is low iron level. Women are especially prone to low iron. They need 15 mg. of iron each day. Members of the community who wish to donate and think they might have low iron can eat red meat, raisins, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, licorice, Special K and Raisin Bran cereals or other high-iron foods for about a week before time to donate. Also, it’s important to eat before donating. Donors should have a substantial breakfast or lunch before donating.

The blood drive is open to the public and will be coordinated by Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. For more information about donating blood, logon to www.bloodcenter.org/donating/blood.htm.

To set an appointment to donate blood, please contact Diane Foster at 314-513-4086.
