Michael Kimmel, Ph.D., Discusses Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men as Part of Women's History Month at Meramec

The Meramec Women's History Month Committee welcomes Michael Kimmel, Ph.D., on Wednesday, March 11, at 10 a.m. in the Theater. 

Dr. Kimmel is among the leading researchers and writers on men and masculinity in the U.S.

His documentary history, Against the Tide: Pro-Feminist Men in the United States, 1776-1990 (Beacon, 1992), chronicled men who supported women’s equality since the nation’s founding. 

Kimmel is also the author or editor of more than twenty volumes, including

Changing Men: New Directions in Research on Men and Masculinity (1987), Men Confront Pornography (1990), The Politics of Manhood (1996), The Gender of Desire (2005), The History of Men (2005), and his latest book, Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men (2008).

The lecture is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow at 11:30 a.m.
